Carpal tunnel release: procedure, open vs endoscopic surgery, and recovery
Carpal tunnel release relieves pressure on the median nerve by cutting the transverse carpal ligament. Open and endoscopic techniques share the same goal, and most procedures are outpatient.
Carpal tunnel surgery creates more room for the median nerve by releasing the ligament that forms the roof of the tunnel.
When surgery is considered

Open carpal tunnel release
The surgeon makes an incision in the palm or wrist area and divides the transverse carpal ligament under direct visualization.
Endoscopic release
An endoscope is used through one or more smaller incisions to visualize and release the ligament. Both techniques aim to decompress the median nerve.
Anesthesia

What happens after release
