A plain-language checklist for technique, scope, devices, anesthesia and expected setting.
Start with facts that can be checked
Separate marketing from independently checkable information. In Colombia, patients can use the Ministry of Health's ReTHUS system to check whether a health professional is registered and authorized to practice, and REPS to review provider and service registration information where applicable. A badge or testimonial is not a substitute for those checks.
Make the request specific enough to answer
- Name the procedure or problem you are researching, without guessing at a diagnosis you have not received.
- State what records you already have and ask what else the clinician needs.
- Give a realistic travel window, not a date you have already locked in.
- Ask whether the price is preliminary or based on a clinician-reviewed treatment plan.
- Keep a copy of the written response and every important exclusion.
Compare scope before price
Two numbers are only comparable when they describe the same scope. Ask who the treating clinician is, where care would occur, what professional/facility fees are included, which tests or devices are excluded, how follow-up works, and what could cause the estimate to change.
Get payment terms in writing
- Who receives the deposit?
- What is refundable, nonrefundable or transferable?
- What happens if the clinician changes the plan?
- What happens if the date moves?
- Which currency controls the final amount?
Plan the handoff home before you leave
International treatment creates a continuity-of-care problem if nobody knows who handles questions after travel. Before booking, ask what routine follow-up is expected, how records are transferred, who to contact with urgent concerns, and what the treating team recommends if you need care after returning home.
Want provider options to compare?
Submit one structured request. With your consent, it may be shared with up to 3 relevant independent providers so they can respond to your inquiry.
